Needs

The Toronto Blue Jays brought their top 20 prospects to the University of Health and Performance for a 3 day training retreat. The goal of the retreat was to provide an environment for the athletes to focus on their personal development, mindset, and attention to details through obstacle courses, team competitions, and baseball specific workouts. The mission of our video was to document the rigorous training these athletes undergo to prepare for the season. We filmed in a documentary style with slow motion and cinematic footage.

Strategy

With a 4:30am call time, this production began with a bang. Early morning workouts. Weights clanging. Grunts. Yelling. Sweating. Sprinting, jumping, throwing, and hitting. All this and the sun isn't even up yet! From documenting workouts to body therapy sessions to group discussions on personal values, our job was to capture personal development in the making. Our shoot style was a hybrid of documentary and a run and gun style. Our favorite part was spending time interviewing their key team leaders to ask them about their vision, expectations, and process in getting ready for a long and grueling season. It was amazing to hear how intense and how much intention goes into a preparation, training, and planning.

Deliverables

The final deliverable was a 3 minute video that was shared around the Blue Jays organization for internal use and external marketing. The feedback was extremely positive.
